Talk:Main Page
From D&D Wiki Media
[edit] Categories & templates
WikiRPS uses labels from the following two category trees:
- Category:License : for specifying license information
- Category:Equipment : for categorizing images by type
Should we just move these entire trees over to D&D Wiki Media, modulo whatever parts are specific to WikiRPS?
Likewise, I notice many of the images imported from D&D Wiki also use categorization schemes, e.g. Image:Flag-Axiomites.png. Should these categories be moved over as well?
For that matter, does Basilicus have anything to add to the mix?
There may turn out to be conflicts between labeling conventions. I presume we can address these as they come up. –CĂșthalion (talk) 22:26, 6 May 2007 (MDT)
- The purpose of labels is to help you to organize information. Categories such as "illustration", "Public Domain", and "Encounter Map" are helpful. Categories such as "image" (where most entries are images) are not so helpful. I suggest that you write up a page with every category that you can think of. Once you start breaking it down, things will get obvious. --Dmilewski 07:15, 7 May 2007 (MDT)
- Good idea. –CĂșthalion (talk) 14:51, 7 May 2007 (MDT)
[edit] Campaign setting
I included Category:Wikiworld and what I would take to be its parent category, Category:Campaign setting, in the hierarchy. However, I would discourage using campaign-specific media labels within the repository. –CĂșthalion (talk) 15:29, 7 May 2007 (MDT)
- I agree. Where you get into gray areas is with custom content for a specific contexts. Example: Wikiworld flags. I don't see them being generically useful. Likewise, maps for encounters or locations tend to be specific.--Dmilewski 14:20, 11 May 2007 (MDT)
[edit] Media Sources
While we should all be careful to avoid copyright infringement, there remains the question of what we can and cannot use on this wiki. Can we use images from sites like: http://www.sir-tech.com/wizardry8/index1.html or http://www.flamestryke.com/wizardry8/flamestrykes_w8.html ? I haven't gone ahead and used any material from these sites, and will not do so unless it is okay. Noname 19:53, 8 July 2008 (MDT)
